Back-to-School
Homeopathy for New Routines, Big Feelings, and Brave Kids
Whether your kids are headed into a classroom, starting a new co-op, returning to homeschool rhythms, or diving into fresh sports and activities, back to school can stir up a lot. New schedules. New faces. New expectations. For some, it’s pure excitement. For others, a mix of nerves, restlessness, and emotions that feel hard to name.
Sleep gets shaky. Bellies get nervous. Emotions run high.
These changes affect everyone, not just the kids heading off to school but the ones staying home too. That shift from summer to structure is real.
Whether it’s your little one clinging at drop-off, your homeschooler tossing in bed before co-op, or your big kid battling the jitters before a new sport, we see you. And we’ve got support.
These are the top remedies I recommend to help ease your family back into the rhythm of school with more peace and a lot less panic.
Top Homeopathic Remedies for the Back-to-School Transition
1) Pulsatilla 30c
Think: Separation anxiety and clingy, weepy emotions. This is the go-to remedy for children struggling to separate from a parent. Tears at drop-off, clinginess, anxiety, or needing constant reassurance. It’s especially helpful for children who are starting school for the first time or entering a new environment like co-op or a new activity.
Dosing: Start Pulsatilla 30c 2-3x daily a few days before school or co-op begins if your child shows signs of clinginess or worry. On school mornings, give a dose before leaving home. If emotions spike, a second dose right before drop-off can help.
2) Gelsemium 30c
Think: Anticipatory anxiety and timid nervousness. Ideal for the child who seems quiet, sluggish, or withdrawn before the first day. They may freeze, get shy, feel heavy or shaky, or even develop a headache or tummy ache from nerves.
Dosing: Give one dose of Gelsemium 30c the night before and another the morning of school, co-op, or any new event. Use again if nervous symptoms return later in the week.
3) Argentum Nitricum 30c (optional alternative)
Think: Fidgety, chatty, restless worry. If your child is wound up, talking fast, overthinking everything, or dealing with an anxious stomach, Argentum Nitricum may be a better fit than Gelsemium.
Dosing: Same as Gelsemium: night before, morning of, and as needed when nerves ramp up.
4) Coffea Cruda 6x or 30c
Think: Restless minds that can’t sleep. This is a gentle remedy for the child who can’t fall asleep because their brain is buzzing with too much excitement, anxiety, or change.
Dosing: Give one dose prior to bedtime as needed. If your child is having an especially difficult time settling, an additional dose may be given.
