My Mom the Snake Charmer
...except this snake didn’t get the memo.
(Disclaimer: Always seek medical care… this blog is not medical advice)
So, picture this: my mom’s doing her usual afternoon rounds- collecting eggs, feeding the chickens, minding her business- when she notices a rather uninvited guest in the coop. A snake. A six-foot egg thief, to be exact.
And not today, Satan.
Without missing a beat, she grabs the milk crate he was coiled up in and tosses it out. Bold move. Brave move. Not her best move.
Because in the chaos, he latched on. Right to her hand. One fang left a deep puncture. The other tore the side of her finger as she yanked her hand back. Blood started pouring- fast and bright red.
Insert next level freak out mode.
First Response: Don’t Panic- Remedy Up
In true homeopathy-mom fashion, she didn't freak out (okay, she freaked out a little). But we knew what to do:
✔️ Phosphorus 200C – for the bright red, gushing blood
Within seconds of taking it, the bleeding slowed dramatically. Win.
✔️ Aconite 200C – for the what just happened panic
Her heart was pounding, she was shaking- classic Aconite territory. One dose, and her nervous system started to settle.
Then Came the Puffiness…
Once the bleeding stopped, the swelling started. Her fingers were puffy and tender. A clear puncture wound was forming.
So, we followed up with:
Ledum 200C – the go-to for puncture wounds and bites
Cold to the touch, swelling, better with cold? Textbook Ledum.
Later, as the adrenaline wore off, her hand felt sore, bruised, and achy- even in areas that weren’t directly bitten.
Arnica 200C – to address the trauma and deep bruising
We rotated Arnica in to help her body recover from the full impact- the shock, the soreness, and the “run-over-by-a-truck” feeling that started to settle in.
So What Should You Do If Bitten by a Snake?
First- get medical help. Always.
But while waiting or en route, homeopathy can support the body’s response:
Ledum – first remedy for puncture wounds
Arnica – trauma, bruising, shock
Phosphorus – bright bleeding
Aconite – sudden fright, panic
Lachesis, Crotalus, Bothrops, Naja, Elaps – snake-specific remedies depending on symptoms
And if you’re in the middle of the woods or the chicken coop… maybe leave the crocodile hunter moves up to the professionals Lesson learned. 😅
